During the winter months, operations outside can sometimes be difficult for everyone. None more so than train crews trying to provide safe and efficient service for you, our customers. Below are a few tips for assisting in this effort on your private sidetracks and facilities.
- In areas where train crews walk, clean up pallets, banding, debris and other tripping hazards. This is not just for winter but all year round.
- Snow removal at your facilities must be done so that the track and walkways are kept clear of snow and ice.
- Walkways and areas around switches must be salted/ sanded to provide proper footing.
- Flangeway at grade crossings must be free from ice. Believe it or not, ice will derail a train!
- Automobiles and trucks must not park on or near the tracks.
- Check lights for night time operation, make sure they are in proper order.
